The first thing that comes to your mind when you enter Electronics Entertainment Expo in LA is: overwhelming. Every year in June, there’s a convention held just for gamers. And it becomes a place where all the gamers reunite, bloggers, developers, publishers, retailers, media and hardcore gamers. All of them just to witness the wonders of gaming world and what they’re gonna get for the next 12 months.
To be honest, calling it overwhelming is injustice. The whole convention is spanning over 2 humongous halls at the convention center. Each hall shares a 5 minute walking distance, that probably means that the visitors will get to do some exercise. The West hall is prevailed by the big three of gaming industry. Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft. Nintendo’s busy showing off their new console named Wii U. The console is suppose to be in stores before the Christmas. However, there’s no solid release date present at the moment.
The games on Wii U looks absolutely brilliant, specially ZombiU, Lego City: Undercover, Nintendo Land and the New Super Mario Bros U. Sadly, Nintendo decided not to shed lights on the specs of the console, so we don’t really know how powerful this machine is and what type of optical drive it uses. The South hall is full of third-party publishers and developers like Disney Interactive, Ubisoft, EA, Activision, Bethesda and many others, including indie developers and 3rd party peripheral manufacturers.
He’s no superhero, just standing to film the conference
Upon witnessing both halls, it feels like you’re standing in a sea full of people. Everyone is either standing or sitting with a controller in their hands. However, if you compare South hall and the West hall, you will realize that South one looks more like a nightclub rather than a proper convention, with blaring lights and sound. South hall is the place where the trailers for all the big daddy games like Crysis 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Assassin’s Creed III and Devil May Cry are being displayed on giant screens.
And here comes the hardest thing to do at E3, playing games. Games like Halo 4, God of War: Ascension, The Amazing Spider-Man and Beyond have long queues of eager gamers waiting to get a test run on their favorite games. It’s really a sight of passion. Obviously for people who consider gaming to be their passion.
And then there’s the biggest surprise at E3 2012, booth babes. Surely an unneeded mistiming in 2012? A booth babe row originated this over a tweet from Asus at Computex technology show in Taiwan. No such absurdity here at E3. It’s quite obvious that most of the people attending E3 are here just for only one reason: games.
And after realizing that half of the people attending the convention are women of different professions, from media, industry PRs and even game developers. It’s quite awkward to see booth babes, they’re just unnecessary.
There presence was completely unnecessary
